The Inner Loop, a literary reading series, lands in our store this September, featuring Aminatta Forna as she celebrates her novel Happiness. Nine local writers will read alongside her in fiction, nonfiction and poetry.
The Inner Loop is a literary reading series and network for creative writers in the Washington, D.C. metro area. The Inner Loop aims to create a space for both emerging and established writers to connect with their community, and to transform the written word into a shared experience through the act of reading aloud.
From award-winning writer Aminatta Forna, Happiness is a stunning novel bringing an American scientist and a Ghanaian psychologist together in London in a hunt for a missing boy—and an expansive, subtle tale of loss, hope, love, compassion, culture, and the true meaning of happiness.
“Throughout Happiness, Forna stops in our tracks . . . Reminiscent at times of Michael Ondaatje’s novel Anil’s Ghost . . . Happiness is a meditation on grand themes: Love and death, man and nature, cruelty and mercy. But Forna folds this weighty matter into her buoyant creation with a sublimely delicate touch.”—Washington Post
Aminatta Forna is the author of the novels Ancestor Stones, The Memory of Love, and The Hired Man, as well as the memoir The Devil That Danced on the Water.
