Bare It All: Truth Telling, Blogging and What it Means to Share Your Life Online with Izzy Martens
They say that honesty is one of the most important pieces of writing good non-fiction. But telling the truth isn’t always easy, especially when you are publishing that truth for the whole world to see. To write creative non-fiction well, you have to be a little fearless. In this workshop participants will examine the pros-and-cons to sharing stories about their personal lives online. Participants can expect to hear real life examples about both the good, and the sometimes challenging, aspects of non-fiction and of inviting others into your life online.
We’ll examine what types of things you should feel comfortable sharing online, how writing about real people in your life can impact relationships and the key to doing it well; we’ll talk about what makes for an engaging blog post, and practice writing and sharing a short piece of your own. We’ll ask ourselves questions like: Is it worth it? Why do it at all? And, most importantly, how to do it in a way that can protect your life and relationships? Participants will walk away with more confidence in their own writing and a belief that sharing their story can indeed make the world a better place.
This is a ticketed workshop! Check back for details about purchasing tickets online through EventBrite.
